The project area is located in a district of Lausanne with a low building density, with houses that don’t exceed the three floors high; while the plan, of the competition announcement, of the new sheltered housing “La Cigale”, asks expensive requests in terms of volumetry; which forces to imagine a building with a height of 5 floors above ground, complex challenge given the context in which one operates.

For this reason it has been imagined a building consisting of three separate volumes, to dilute the great masses and approach as much as possible at the construction scale of the context; these three volumes gather around a central space to the entire height, which becomes a real covered square where residents can spend time of great quality and, although within a closed space, they can socialize and behave as if they are in town sitting at a table of a bar.

Distribution hallways of rooms have no relationship with the tipical walkways of structures of this type, but are equipped with small squares, views over the park, places where to sit and chat, collective rooms where do lunch or a game of cards, and always look out on the large central empty space.
